ABOUT THE CLUB:
The Club was organized 65 years ago by music teachers, volunteers and people from the community. It provides young music students (instrumentalists up to age 21 and singers up to age 25) with a performing experience in a non-competitive recital atmosphere.
Concerts are held six times a year at the First Unitarian Church at
The
opening concert presents the winners of the previous season's OWJMC scholarships
and the winners of Kiwanis Music Festival trophies and scholarships donated by
the Club. It may also include invited guests and ensembles such as
choral, instrumental, and chamber music groups.
The season will close with a Gala Fundraising Concert featuring accomplished performers selected from the concerts during the year. The selection is made by the auditioning committee of the OWJMC.

A performance can feel like a concert only if there is an audience. The presence of teachers and parents is of considerable emotional value to the performers. We encourage family members, teachers, friends and the community at large to attend.
NEW!!! STUDENT ACCOMPANIST ROSTER!!!!
The OWJMC encourages young keyboard players
to gain experience in accompanying singers and instrumentalists. If you
are a keyboard player wanting to help the singers and instrumentalists who
apply to perform in our concerts and need an accompanist, please e-mail us with
your name, contact information, and the concert dates you are available to accompany.
We will put you in touch with the performers who need accompanists for those
dates.
And, Singers! Instrumentalists!
If you would like to work with one of our young accompanists, please note on
your registration form, or contact us by e-mail. (It can be lots of fun to work with an
accompanist of your own age!). Please note that we suggest our young
accompanists be willing to accompany free of charge, as it is meant to be a
learning experience. However, performers may decide to give a modest
honorarium if they feel it appropriate.
AS A MATTER OF COURTESY WE ASK THAT THOSE WHO ATTEND THE CONCERT REMAIN UNTIL THE END.
ALL PERFORMERS SHOULD ARRIVE AT LEAST 15 MINUTES BEFORE CONCERT TIME.
The OWJMC's website is sponsored by the National Capital Freenet. The NCF is a non-commercial and not-for-profit service provider, offering high-speed and dial-up access to the Interent, email services, web page hosting, and help for people new to using the Internet.
